wode.is.me@gmail.comAbout me? What's to tell? I'm a relatively boring person. I'm a commuter college student with two dogs (Cavalier King Charles Spaniels). I love Broadway (although i fear for it's future with all the Disney and movie reproductions. Anyone hear of Les Miserables? No? Too many years before your time? Soapbox...sorry) However, i do view myself as somewhat of a Broadway connoisseur. (Aida, Avenue Q, A Touch of the Poet, Apple Tree, Brooklyn, Bridge and Tunnel, Boy From Oz, Butley, Company, Color Purple, Carousel, Children of a Lesser God, Curtains, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Drowsy Chaperone, Damn Yankees, Fiddler on the Roof, Footloose, Forbidden Broadway Strikes Back, Hairspray, Into the Woods, Kiss Me Kate, Light in the Piazza, Little Women, Les Miserables, Lion King, LoveMusik, Legally Blonde, Mamma Mia, Never Gonna Dance, On the Town, The Producers, Phantom, Pirate Queen, Rent, Spamalot, Secret Garden, Spring Awakening, Singing in the Rain, Streetcar named Desire, Saturday Night Fever, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Wicked...) I may be forgetting one or two. (Like Cats. Doesn't count. shh) Oh! But i do collect magnets and programs from every show. Religiously. And books. Yeah, those huge ass hefty books.
My passion is American Sign Language. I started in 11th grade in high school, became involved in the Deaf community, worked at Mill Neck School for the Deaf, and continued my education into college. I've had many influences, teachers, and mentors, whether they be ten years old.. (11 this month, 12?...goodness) or adults. I've experienced the Tenth Annual ASL Celebration at Northeastern University, as well as contributing at Cleary School for the Deaf during the winter. Everything has been an experience, and completely life changing.
My Laughter? British Comedies. Many people don't get the humor, but my family brushes it off and claim they just enjoy watching me laugh at what they don't understand. A Bit Of Fry and Laurie (I've roped a few people into enjoying that. Call it modern-Hugh Laurie charm), Blackadder, Are You Being Served?, Red Dwarf, Doctor Who, Jeeves and Wooster (See: A Bit of Fry and Laurie), Chef!, Vicar of Dibley, Fawlty Towers, (May the gods strike me for this one): EastEnders. More, of course, but New York doesn't seem keen on stocking them. *sigh*
I love learning about Egypt. I've got stacks and stacks of those 'big ass hefty books,' just like my Broadway ones. They'll be quite a bitch to pack and move, but i've been assured thos babies are coming with me. In anycase, my love of Egypt has put me in a predicament when the holidays roll around. Y'see, i may be agnostic, but my family is Jewish. Especially my mother's side. Passover at my great uncle's house is always a thrill. It's me against the world! "As Moses said to Pharaoh..." my mother always kicks me under the table. Every year. She knows i won't say anything at the seder table, but it's still amusing. I think it's just so she can kick me, but i digress ;-). 2005 i went to see the King Tut exhibit in For Lauderdale. We had headphones so we could hear Omar Shariff speak about each individual exhibit. I kept the headphones around my neck and darted around, taking poor Omar's role. those with me soon followed suit, listening to my explanations instead. (By the way, my explanations WERE correct, thank you. I wasn't just shooting my mouth off ;-))
And y'know? This is just a bio page. Tell users about yourself or your journal. I rather did shoot my mouth off. I kept telling myself that i *HAD* to put something on my bio page before i went nuts. I went nuts anyway. Whew
PS: *whispers* I see fictional characters. I am indeed stalked. Quite so.
